THE MINCER
2014 - This project is an ambitious endeavor to develop a performance piece within an alternative location, exploring the potential for theatrical work in unconventional spaces. The aim is to maintain high-quality artistic production while developing robust conceptual foundations for the performances. Thoughts and images are cultivated through ongoing research and meticulous attention to detail, placing the performers under the pressure of experimentation. The project seeks to evoke genuine emotions from its participants and viewers, drawing on influences such as television, radio, classroom lessons, religious teachings, formalities, and laws—all of which shape our ethics.
The performance text centers on the relationship between authority and rebellion, examining how rebellions can sometimes be manipulated by the very authorities they oppose. Philosophically, the performance's title reflects the idea of larger frameworks being shattered into fragments, which must then be reassembled to understand the broader context.
"The Mincer" illustrates how rebellions can be manufactured as prototypes, without recognizing the inherent individuality of each person, leading to their eventual destruction.
In terms of technique, we aimed to construct an artwork that is fragmented across multiple dimensions: character lines, stage design, and art scenes. The central concept is that visual compositions, although fragmented, collectively represent a cohesive whole. This design process was realized through numerous sketches created by the scenographer. The scenographer's vision sought to transcend traditional theatrical settings, redefining the relationship between stage and audience.
