THE ELECTRICITY IS OUT
2012 - This performance skillfully employed various techniques to achieve surprise and intrigue within a confined space. Set in a hall that accommodates only 29 spectators, the intimate environment heightened the sense of distress and involvement. This piece aimed to balance high quality with low costs, translating complex, disjointed, and seemingly random ideas into a cohesive story of a person attempting multiple escapes.
In Egypt, power outages are often called βthe lights went out.β This piece follows the journey of an individual who finds himself under investigation in a security building, illuminated only by a small charging lamp due to a power outage. Compelled to recount his life story to a detective, he reveals his relationships, impulsive decisions, and intense desire to escape. As we trace his narrative, we ultimately discover, when the electricity returns, that we are actually in his house.
